Student success at Bromley Beacon ‘Barista’ Academy!
Sixth form students attending Bromley Beacon Academy’s Bromley campus are benefiting from an innovative new Barista curriculum – which is enabling them to gain industry recognised qualifications and prepare for future employment.
This year’s cohort have all achieved Barista qualifications at merit and distinction level, reflecting their engagement and hard work.
The 16–19-year-olds are learning about the products used to create a wide range of drinks, including where they come from and the process they go through. Students have access to a full range of professional Barista equipment, learning how to operate and maintain it.
The innovative course is also helping the students gain skills in customer service, time management and teamwork, which are all crucial for the real world of work.
“We are so proud of our students; it is fantastic to see them achieve qualifications in this exciting industry. It has also been great for the school community, with staff and students enjoying delicious hot drinks!
“We are now focusing on expanding the programme, so that more of our young people can participate and develop the wider employability skills that come with it. We are also working with local businesses, including cafes and restaurants, to ensure our students have the opportunity to showcase and develop their talents in a real-world environment.”
Bromley Beacon Academy is a special provision for children and young people with social, emotional and mental health needs. Located across two sites, our Bromley campus delivers Key Stage 4 and 5 (Year 9 -13) provision, offering pupils the opportunity to specialise in a range of vocational subject areas – including motor mechanics hospitality and multi skills, as well as Barista training.
