The Workplace joins LSEAT and becomes East Sussex Skills Academy
London South East Academies Trust (LSEAT) has today welcomed The Workplace into its network of schools, with the provision renamed East Sussex Skills Academy.
The school, located in Bexhill, supports up to 94 pupils in Years 9–11 who are unable to access mainstream education. It offers a range of vocational pathways, helping young people to re-engage with learning and realise their potential.
East Sussex Skills Academy becomes the 19th school in LSEAT’s successful network of mainstream, special and alternative provision schools across London, Surrey and East Sussex.
Previously part of Sabden Multi Academy Trust, the school was issued an academy order in February 2025. Following a competitive process by the DfE, LSEAT was selected as the preferred Trust for the school to transfer into. This was due to its experience in delivering high quality alternative provision; its strong partnerships with pre- and post-16 providers; its successful model of transition/progression and expertise in vocational education.
A robust improvement plan has already begun to be implemented at East Sussex Skills Academy. This is being led by headteacher (Matt Jacobs) and his senior leadership team, with support from LSEAT’s specialists.
Dr Sam Parrett CBE, CEO of London South East Academies Trust, said:
“We are delighted to welcome East Sussex Skills Academy into our Trust. Our aim is to ensure that every pupil is supported to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to progress successfully into further education and meaningful employment.“With a proven track record of improving and delivering high quality alternative provision, alongside our vocational education expertise, we look forward to working closely with local further education colleges and employers. These partnerships will help us strengthen transition pathways for young people, supporting them into training, apprenticeship and job opportunities.“As a Trust, our commitment is to transform lives through the power of learning. We are grateful for the support of East Sussex County Council, the DfE and the outgoing Trust – as well as staff, families and pupils at East Sussex Skills Academy.”
Headteacher of East Sussex Skills Academy, Matt Jacobs, added:
“With the support of LSEAT and our local partners, we are focused on making rapid and lasting improvements for our pupils – to ensure they have access to the high-quality education they need and deserve.”
LSEAT delivers Alternative Provision across East Sussex, helping to ensure that all young people can access appropriate settings. LSEAT also provides an Outreach service in East Sussex, with its team comprising SENCOs, educational psychologists, mentors and behaviour experts. They work with schools and agencies across the county to help prevent avoidable exclusions and support pupils to access specialist provision where needed.
With inclusion at the heart of the Trust’s mission, LSEAT collaborates with many schools and colleges locally, regionally and nationally, exchanging evidence-based practice to ensure the best possible provision for pupils.
